Presented as part of the One City One Pride Queer Arts Festival, this was the first full exhibition about the LGBT community to be shown at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Alabama, whose mission is to promote civil and human rights worldwide through education. The public display of the work marked photographer Carolyn Sherer’s “coming out” and that of a number of other participants. In a state that has legislated discrimination against the LGBT community, many risked loss of jobs, child custody, and family acceptance. This exhibit is funded by the City of West Hollywood through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission and by recommendation of the Gay and Lesbian Advisory Board. This exhibit will be on display through Wednesday, July 10, 2013 during regular operating hours at the West Hollywood Library. (M-Th 11-7, Fr-Sa 10-6). An artist's reception will happen on May 31.
